See ya later Alligators...

Greetings Campers!

It's been a long time coming, but with the popular Facebook page giving us the latest and greatest in the Free Spirit Owners World, it's time to close down the OzFogBlog.

It's been a wonderful few years, thank you for your contributions, photographers and comments.

Husband has finally retired....time to hit the road!

Stay safe out there.

Is it or isn't it....????

Hello travellers!

I recently received this question from Greg (thank you for asking) and thought I had better make it public, as I am often asked what is happening with Free Spirit Caravans.

Sadly, we are unable give an update on the status of Free Spirit Caravans. We are still thrilled with our van (even though circumstances haven't allowed us to travel as much as we would like!) We live in hope that one day FSC will be back in business, but until then, we look forward to seeing many of our fellow travellers out and about in this big, beautiful, lucky country we call home. Stay safe out there. FB

Merry Christmas Travellers and Armchair Travellers!

Merry Christmas to FOG's and friends, we hope that you enjoy the season with loved ones and that 2017 is a safe and happy one for you all!

My wish for the New Year is that we are able to get on the road more often (but with a third grandchild soon to be born, that may remain a wish for a while!)

Meanwhile... keep sending those great travelling stories and photos coming to share with us that do not have the ability to get out and about.

Safe travels and have a 'Vantastic' New Year!

(Happy New Year! Remember to check for comments below the posts. FB)

Birdsville or Bust!

I had an email and some exciting new photos from Martin and Sue (travelling with Dave and Deb) on their adventure to Birdsville. And quite an adventure it was.  Read on..... photos and commentary courtesy of Martin Van Eyk. Thanks for the update Martin! FB

We left Berwick on the 5th of September with the intention of travelling to Birdsville via the Birdsville track and then home to Coolum. When we arrived in Burra in South Australia we were told that the Birdsville track has been closed due to the recent rains. OK so plan B was implemented, we would travel to Port Augusta  and then north as far as Daly Waters then South East to Mt Isa and try to get to Birdsville from the north via Boulia and Bedourie.  There had been an additional 100mm of rain in the area since we left Burra but when we arrived in Boulia we were told the road was open for high clearance 4WD only. They did not say anything about caravans so we assumed it was ok to take our vans, here are some photos of the results.

Everything nice and shiny ready to go

Salt pan on the way to Alice Springs (Not Lake Eyre as we had planned but interesting)

The Breakaways near Coober Pedy. Can’t see Mad Max anywhere

Even the churches are underground in Coober Pedy

Devil’s Marbles past Alice Springs
My first car, I always wondered what had happened to it

 Daly Waters

It doesn’t say no caravans so let’s do it

Just a few moo cows blocking our way

Hmm maybe this was not such a good idea
It’s getting worse, there is a bridge under all that water somewhere

Now I know why we bought an off road caravan

Uh oh Dave has got bogged

Land Cruiser to the rescue

We made it the long way around, 5500 kilometres after leaving home

The next challenge we made it to the top of Big Red, the highest sand dune in the Simpson Desert

Stay tuned for part 2 we are leaving for Windorah tomorrow and it is still raining.

Normal programming will resume shortly.... or not???

Thanks to Mike and Helen who alerted me to the recent difficulty in contacting FSC.

I made contact with Elaine and all is well and they are trying to get back on top of calls after moving and some recent illness.

"All is good.  We have just moved and so it has been quite hard getting everything straight again..............

So yes all is good; please be patient while we re-tool and by the 10th of October all will be rolling; as that is when my apprentice and main full time people are back and up and running.

Bottom line is we are still in production and happily going along (just been a bit slower) and T and I have not got to all the calls as we have been away. soon as I get the printers up and everything else - in line - we can be on top of calls.  We mainly concentrated on production keeping it going.  So many people call us it is amazing; so pass on please; sorry we have moved premises and sorry we have had illness; but all is good now and we are getting back on track to answer everyone.

Thanks for the concern from all"

Glad to hear all will be back to 'normal' soon!

Update December 2016:

Further to the above, it seems that October, November and December has come and gone and nothing appears to be happening. (Except that the links to Free Spirit now don't work, so I have deleted them.) Sadly, it appears that our favourite caravan manufacturers may not be 'back to normal'. I hope 2017 holds better news....
